The Ancram Democratic Committee is made up of your neighbors, friends, and colleagues, all working for Democratic values, candidates, and policies throughout Columbia County.

eWHAT WE DO

The Ancram Democratic Committee is committed to the advancement of progressive Democratic goals through efficient and effective government:  economic equality and meaningful job development; quality public education; affordable healthcare, childcare, and housing; respect and inclusion for all.

We work with the CCDC (Columbia County Democratic Committee) to recruit and elect Democratic candidates to village, town, county, state, and federal offices, and provide volunteers and financial support for those elections. We also seek out individual Democrats to participate in local volunteer governance, including Zoning, Planning, and Historic Preservation Boards and Commissions.

CAMPAIGN 2025

Does this guy even WANT to be Supervisor?

Jim MacArthur isn't even competent enough to handle public comments let alone a town. Here's what he said: "Somebody else run this meeting...I've had enough of this crap". He left the room and never came back! Doesn't Ancram deserves better?

FOR REAL LEADERSHIP...
ELECT COLLEEN LUTZ for SUPERVISOR

BONNIE HUNDT & AMY GOLD for TOWN BOARD!

LOCAL NEWS SOURCES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER!

Legacy main stream media has not done us any favors of late. Most of these sources are owned by oligarchs or corporations who have prematurely capitulated to the Trump administration. However, here in Columbia County we have a newspaper that, for the most part, accurately reports on what is happening in our county and our own Town of Ancram. Here are two recent examples of the good reporting The Columbia Paper has done. We encourage you to buy a subscription to help keep "our paper" going!

This is an excellent report on what's happening to our immigrant friends and neighbors right here, in and around Columbia County. ICE IS HERE detaining the people who work on our farms, in our restaurants, in our homes and our yards. Don't think it won't affect our lives...BECAUSE IT WILL.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
Let immigrant familes know their power.  Share this information with them.
how to help migrants.jpg

Here’s how you can take action right now

  • Stay Informed: Follow trusted sources to stay updated on immigration policies and their impact on your community.

  • Snitch ICE Out: If you see ICE operating in your area, verify it and alert your networks. Share information responsibly to keep our neighbors safe while avoiding panic.

  • Support Local Organizations: Connect with immigrant rights groups near you. Follow them on social media, join their email lists, donate if you can, and show up to support their work.

  • If You’re a U.S. citizen, Use Your Leverage: Check out this essential guide: How U.S. Citizens Can Protect the Immigrant Community From the Deportation Force from United We Dream.

When our communities are under attack, we respond with resistance, solidarity, and courage. Together, we are stronger than fear.

Now, more than ever, it is important for U.S. Citizen allies of immigrants to support the immigrant community by taking real actions if they witness a raid by Trump’s Deportation Force. But what can you do? Here are some ways you can support:

  • If you see ICE checkpoints, you could ask why are they stopping, searching vehicles and where are they taking individuals who are being detained?

  • If ICE is asking for ID on a train, bus, or other spaces, refuse to show your ID – ask questions about why they are there in the first place and put yourself between ICE agents and undocumented individuals

  • If ICE agents are seen posted outside of homes inquire who they are searching for and why?

  • Ask for a warrant – remind people of their rights

  • If you see someone being detained, ask why is the person being detained? Ask where will they be transferred to?

  • Follow guidelines on recording the interaction.

  • Record badge numbers, license plates, and everything that happened in the incident by writing it down and video taping. As much as possible, try to learn and document what role ICE officers and local law enforcement played during the activity.

  • Identify folks who would be interested in risking arrest to support stopping the raid.

  • You can create a group with a plan to respond to raids, assign roles and examine the potential strategy on how to stop the raid i.e – AZ folks stop an ICE vehicle from taking folks.

  • Know your rights as a U.S. Citizen- you have a right to be present, observing, bearing witness, praying, photographing and videotaping (though your right to videotape a law enforcement action may vary by state).

  • If ICE warns you and asks you to step back while videoing/photographing, it is best to follow directions, as they may confiscate your camera.

  • Assign someone to de-escalate the situation if you are able to gain space while activity is happening

  • Supporting the community isn’t just about trying to stop a raid, it’s also about mobilizing and organizing people to help with the fall out of the raid, when families are being separated

  • You can start a list of local pro-bono immigration lawyers that are willing and ready to provide services for people being detained

  • Be ready to show up and do a vigil at the ICE field office, detention center or jail where people are being held to advocate for those immigrants to be released on bail

  • Be prepared to launch a call in action to call and demand that ICE Field office releases folks who were detained.
